Aliens in San Mateo

I hope these strange beings don't follow us to Portland.

Things I Will Miss in the Bay Area: Berkeley Bowl

As if the hairline, Metamucil, and a predilection for the 5 am awakening weren't enough evidence that I'm no longer 25 years old, I've realized that the thing I may miss most about the Bay Area (not counting friends and family, natch) is the Berkeley Bowl, with its ridiculously large produce department.

And don't think for a second that Whole Foods is a suitable stand-in, as you probably pay at least twice as much for the produce their as you do at the bowl. Hopefully New Seasons or some non-chain establishment in Portland will grow on us and prove to have lots of great, locally grown organic produce at a reasonable price.

Exploring Portland

I've changed the title of the blog from Discovering Portland to Exploring Portland, in deference to an existing blog of the same name. All 2 of you who read this blog may have noticed.

Eating Green

While I can't say I love the turkey burgers at Burgerville, it is nice to know they're trying to do their part, using wind power and converting their waste oil into biodiesel.

Also on Treehugger, I found an article about Chipotle. I thought they were still owned by McDonalds and had no idea they were brimming in scruples. There's a Chipotle in Berkeley, and I can't say I'm crazy about it, but I'm willing to give it another shot.

One Red Paperclip

Ok, so this article has absolutely nothing to do with Portland, but having just bought a house I feel a little jealous that in the space of a year, this dude started with one red paperclip and traded his way to a house. Awesome.

Bruins in Eugene

October 14th ... hall pass requested and ticket secured (Ken, don't dog me!). Not sure if I want it to rain so I can get the full Autzen experience, although I'm thinking that would give the advantage to the Ducks.

Berkeley Park

It's fitting that the park in our new neighborhood is Berkeley Park. It'll give us a little reminder of our previous home with each visit, hopefully without the homeless encampment and rat problem that we have at the park near our current house in the city of Berkeley.
